A man, a planet, and vaporwave design. Stanislav Lem may have sparked the idea but Tarkovsky brought it tragically to life, and that’s a hill I’m willing to die on. Having at some point felt too small and at other times too big for my own good, I was inspired to think of Solaris for this short animation.

The splitting and melding of reality is a major theme of Solaris as both human and planet try to understand each other. However, the splitting and melding is not only of reality but also of the human consciousness, dreams, imprisonment, and of trauma.
